Review: It's Amazing How Many People Have A Bad Hair Day -- a review of "Bad Hair Day": This book is about a little girl's discovery that she is not the only one who is `hair challenged'. On the way to the beauty parlor to be 'fixed', after being badly shorn by her mom, she sees all sorts of ways that hair can go awry. The text in this little book rhymes which makes it a good read-aloud, but all the rhyme is probably lost by most beginning or early readers. So, is it a Level 1 Reader?? Personally, I don't think this book falls into the primer category at all. There just seem to be too many words that true beginners are unlikely to be familiar with. For example, words such as: crazy, too-tight, perms, wiggly, streaks, and scissors. An example of a couple of pages follows so you can judge for yourself. I look and see that It is true. Not all hair does what it should do. And, Crazy curls from too-tight perms bob along like wiggly worms! Four Stars. Interesting story that is a good read-aloud. The sentences are short enough for a beginning reader, but the vocabulary seems a little advanced. For slightly more practiced readers this would be a good reader to practice with.
